Assignment Description
Using your notes, you will write a 500-750 word (2-3 pages) profile feature article about your subject. A “profile feature” is a newspaper or magazine article that explores the background and character of a particular person (or group). The focus should be on a single aspect of the subject’s personal or professional life and is based on an interview with that person.
Grading Rubric
- Interviewer utilized questions that allowed subject to “go deep”, the questions probe for substance. (20%)
- Article has a strong, identifiable central story that the piece revolves around. Writer helps us understand the story’s impact on the subject’s life. (20%)
- Article has an intriguing hook that pulls us in and compels us to read. (10%)
- Article includes necessary background on subject, allows us to understand who the person is in relationship to the central story. (20%) Some ideas (these may or may not be relevant, depending on your central story):
- where they grew up
- how old they are
- who is in their family
- other people important to story
- interests/hobbies
- Article describes the subject using at least two of the following four senses (sight, smell, sound, touch), and paints a compelling visual picture of the individual. (20%) Some ideas:

- Article utilizes at least 2 full or partial quotes from the subject (if needed, ask specifically for them and write down word for word.) (10%)
